Starring :
Suresh Krissna
Kamal Kassan
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Gulzar
Kamal Kassan, Manisha Koirala, Raveena Tandon.

In his repute to do something different in every new production, here comes "Abhay" by Kamal Hassan. Based on the box office reports of few of his previous releases, "Hey Ram", "Hindustani", Abhay too falls in the same category. Well the reason could be Kamal Hassan himself. People consider Kamal Hassan to be top producer/director and some flaw in the script, easily puts off the people's opinion, well the same happened with "Abhay".

Abhay Abhay, supposed to be a thriller is scripted by Kamal Hassan himself and directed by Suresh Krissna. Both have failed to deliver and the result is poor direction to a not so well script.

The story set in the city of Delhi, is about twins (Kamal Hassan & Kamal Hassan), one good and the other bad. The Good one - Major Vijay Kumar is about to marry Tejaswini (Raveena Tandon), a news anchor in a leading channel.

Abhay - the bad one is in mental asylum for last 22 years, after he killed his stepmother (Kitu Gidwani), who he thinks was responsible for the death of this mother & father. The authorities at asylum refused the request by family to release him, since they think that Abhay is dangerous.

Abhay Vijay & Tejaswini make the mistake of going to visit Abhay. Abhay has a problem against all females, so when he sees Tejaswini, he thinks that she is his stepmom and tries to kill her and he runs away from the asylum.

He searches for Tejaswini to kill her, in this process he encounters an actress (Manisha Koirala) who loves to get high on drugs. Abhay ends up killing her also. The chase continues and ends happily.

Kamal Hassan gives a very polished performance, but as in "Hey Ram", here also his role tries to overshadow every other character. Raveena has tried to justify her role. Manisha Koirala's role is too short and doesn't get recognition.

Kamal Hassan likes to bring some special FX & animation in the movie, which doesn't carry any weightage and breaks the flow of the movie.

The music by trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy misses the tempo that we had in Dil Chahta Hai. The poems by Javed Akhtar are excellent.

A movie of Kamal Hassan, for Kamal Hassan, by Kamal Hassan.
