Rukamanee ArtsANSH, written-directed by Rajen Johri, deals with the darker side of the society - THE
UNDERWORLD.
The story revolves around DCP Bhagat Pandey (Om Puri), Inspector Sukhdev Singh (Ashutosh Rana) and Rajguru (Abbas)
grandson of a freedom fighter (Alok Nath).
A sincere and honest police officer DCP Pandey is posted to Mumbai. During his investigation, he comes across
the case of Sukhdev Singh. On futher enquires DCP Pandey discovers that Sukhdev Singh was framed by
corrupt section of police and politicians. He decided to fight for Sukhdev and gain him justice.
------
In the process of investigation, he happens to meet Rajguru, the underworld Don. Rajguru was an unemployed
graduate who comes to Mumbai from Delhi in search of work but fails to get one. He meets Munna bhai (Rajat Bedi) who
is Dawoo's (Ashish Vidyarthi) right hand. Munna introduces Rajguru to Dawoo, who is very impressed by
Rajguru's innocence and honesty. Dawoo hands over his administration to Rajguru before dying.
Rajguru's neighbour Kusum (Shama Sikander) is madly in love with him. But due to his dark past and unknown future,
he sacrifices his love. Shweta (Sharbani Mukherji) a bar dancer falls in love with Rajguru as he saves her
life from Govind Yeda (Sayaji Shinde). Shweta reveals her cause as a bar girl, on knowing the fact they both
decide to spend their lives together.
While, Sukhdev is in search of corrupt politicians, DCP Pandey is in search of him and that’s how the underworld comes into picture.
ANSH is a story, which basically exposes the relation between politicians and underworld. It also deals with the strength
ratio between rich and poor.
Abbas is given a large space to perform but he is partly unfair to his character. Shama Sikander is impressive in her
own way. Sharbani Mukherji has done a fair job. Where as Om Puri and Ashutosh Rana are pillar's to the story as
the movie rest's on their shoulder. Rajat Bedi is passable. Ashish Vidyarthi does leave his impression inspite of a
small role.
Music by Nadeem-Sharavan is below par. Cinematography by V. Subbarao is excellent. Action scenes by Raj Mohan are well composed.
Sayaji Shinde, Milind Gunaji, Alok Nath, Pankaj Berry, Ravi Kissen, Ishrat Ali, Mushtak Khan and Bobby Parikh
are good support to the story.
Overall, Ansh is an ordinary but still an extra-ordinary film in its own way. It may give an average business and run in small centers.
