"Dil Hai Tumhaara" strikes an emotional chord or two with the audience, in the otherwise dull fare. An interesting premise is let down by the
shoddy treatment it receives. The film belongs to Preity Zinta all the way.
Shekhar (Sachin Khedekar) and Sarita (Rekha), are happily married with a child. All hell breaks loose when Sarita discovers there is also another woman
in Shekhar’s life, complete with a kid in town. Matters turn out of hand when Shekhar meets with an accident and dies along with the other woman, Renu Verma, leaving the responsibility of
the illegitimate kid with Sarita.

And so, Sarita plays the perfect mom to Nimmi (Mahima Chaudhary) and a perfect step-mom to Shalu (Preity Zinta). Years pass by, as Shalu turns the ‘rebellious kind’ due to the ignorant attitude of
her step-mom. Her love interest, Dev (Arjun Rampal), the son of the head of the Khanna Group Of Industries, brings a ray of hope for her. But there too, destiny doesn’t
support Shalu, as Nimmi too, has a liking for Dev.
Whatever Shalu does with good intentions, turns into a nightmare for her step-mom, be it trying to save her from her competitor, Mr Mittal (Govind Namdeo), who wants to grab Sarita’s Mayoral seat,
or sacrificing her love for Nimmi’s sake.
The music goes hand in hand with the mood of the script. But the editing table seems to be missing in the production house, with certain
scenes drastically lengthened. The cinematography is cool with just a few goof-ups here and there. The final 30 minutes are
gripping enough.
Of the cast, the yesteryears numero uno, Rekha, sleep-walks through the ‘tense’ character at the helm of affairs. Mahima Chaudhary plays second fiddle to Preity
Zinta, as the understanding sister. Arjun Rampal clearly shows that he is ‘acting’, which lacks the ‘natural touch’. As for
Jimmy Shergill, his role is just restricted to playing ‘filler’ in the plot.
VERDICT : Worth watching only for the zealous Zinta.
