It's all in the family. With mother Vrinda Rai penning the script, brother Aditya producing it and Aishwarya Rai acting in it,
Dil Ka Rishta seems to be a family affair.
Jai (Arjun Rampal), the son of a business tycoon, Mr. Mehta (Paresh Rawal), falls in love with a down-to-earth beauty,
Tia (Aishwarya Rai). But she's already devoted to her boyfriend Raj (Priyanshu) who is not that rich, but somehow manages
to make ends meet, with a decent living.
Raj and Tia marry off, leaving Jai to become the modern day Devdas. In the meantime, a drunk Jai causes an accident, killing Raj and Jai's friend
Anita (Koppikar). Tia loses her memory and, on the doctor's advice, is taken to South Africa to start life afresh. She now falls in love
with Jai but he is in no mood to make up, fearing the past catching up with him.
This may well go down as a romantic thriller. The script is supported well by the background score, to enhance the impact of the proceedings.
The songs too, are above average.
------
Tia's birthday scene with Raj in a 7-star dhaba, and Mr. Mehta's hoax heart attack drama to convince Jai to marry Tia, gives you a few laughs.
Of the cast, Raakhee, as Tia's mom, gets the most important say (role) in the script. Isha Koppikar, thankfully, gets to do some acting instead of
doing those dance numbers. Even then, she gets a raw deal, as she didn't deserve her role to end it the way it did. Ditto for Priyanshu, who surprisingly,
gives a decent performance, far ahead of his solo release last week, APBKDH.
Arjun Rampal needs a hit very badly and so does Aishwarya Rai. They have done their bit, but you really can't tell of the indifferent audience, right? Paresh
Rawal chips in with the comic one-liners to ease some tension of this emotional melodrama.
