After creating a 'badisi controversy', "Ek Chhotisi Love
Story" finally releases in Mumbai amidst all the hype it generated,
of late. Thanks to the kind of attention it received, the film is already
a hit in India.
But the ground reality is that the movie cannot be bracketed as good enough
under any category. If you are a porn lover - there's no sex in it. A
Hollywood movie would be better anytime. If you are a Bollywood masala
movie buff - you'll scratch your nut for ideas to pass your valuable two
and a half hours time, seized in a theatre.
------
The story? Oh, well… A boy has an obsession for an older
woman (Manisha Koirala). Staying bang opposite her flat,
Aditya (Aditya Seal), barely 15, plays the 'peeping tom',
invading her privacy. Equipped with binoculars, he is witness to her love
sessions with her dumb boyfriend. During one such session, he interrupts
them by making a hoax call to the fire brigade about a gas leakage at her
home.
He creates problems for her at her office, too. Moreover, he even goes
disguised as a milkman to have a close look of her. Finally, when she
comes to know about all this, and encourages him to come closer, he backs
off. The climax is bizarre, to say the least.
The screenplay moves slower then a snail's pace. The proceedings are so
boring, that you tend to not forgive yourself for coming to see it, in
the first place.
The lewd comments passed on by the audience throughout the movie, doesn't
help matters.
Of the cast, Aditya Seal is his wooden self, in most of the scenes. But
is able to display rawness, which the script demanded. Interestingly,
he was luckily allowed to watch this film with his friends at the Gaiety
Complex on the day of its release a month back, despite an 'Adults Only'
certificate.
Manisha Koirala doesn't deserve any sympathy for this one. Just one point -
Why did she didn't think of her dignity before signing on the dotted line
itself.
VERDICT: There's nothing in the movie to look forward to. Except
of course… the curiosity factor.
