Nitin Manmohan, who is known to provide paisa vasool movies, has released his latest venture Nayee Padosan.
A film full of comical situations and more comical outcomes Nayee Padosan promises to be wholesome family entertainment.
Set in a posh colony of row houses, the story begins with Raju (Anuj Sawhney) falling in love, at first sight, with the
new neighbour Pooja (Mahek Chahal). Wannabe Michael Jackson (Aslam Khan) too decides to
leave pop and join the classical band to woo his Poo (Pooja). Ram's (Vikas Kalantri) astrologer
says that only marriage could bring him luck and hence Pooja would be the best choice. A series of hilarious wooing
attempts later, the trio find a fourth competitor in the form of Prabhu (Rahul Bhatt), a favourite of both Pooja and her
family. What follows is an absolute laugh riot, since Prabhu combines all the expertise of being a carnatic vocalist, black belt and
an expert at kitchen work. After a strings of hits and misses who finally wins the cup (Pooja) is anyone's guess. The film ends
with the trio trying to woo another girl.Portraying actions and emotions at the right places the film could form a part of an enjoyable
evening with family. Pooja's role as a simple and no-nonsense attitude Tamilian has been well portrayed and blends well
with the three characters, who fail to win her. Also Rahul Bhatt who is better known as Sameer in the serial Heena proves
that he could be a good comedian too. Attempts by all the competitors to woo the leading lady are unmissable.
------
The title track of the film is catchy and is bring aired continuously on satellite channels. Sameer's lyrics and the musical trio
of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy form a perfect combination to provide good music. Director B H Tharun Kumar's experience
as a choreographer has paid off well in the dance numbers. Shaan and Shweta Pandit's voice for the song
Sari sari raina seem apt. The film is certainly not a pick up from the old Padosan (Sunil Dutt-Saira Bano-Kishore
Kumar-Mehmood). Full marks to the all-new cast which has done its best in amusing the audience. Worth noting are the
trendy costumes and dance numbers sans focus on the cleavages or navels or sensuous hip movements.
At a time when violence and obscenity dominate in our films, Nayee Padosan could be a good change. Hopefully, it ushers
in an era of comedies worth watching.
