A new trend seems to be emerging in Bollywood, wherein unknown faces are brought up as lead actors, to cut
down the costs, which are otherwise huge, involving big stars. A welcome change, if it helps Bollywood come out of the miserable state of affairs, thanks to raining flops every other week.
The latest comedy to hit the screens has as many as eight newcomers in the lead roles. On the lines of
"Style", "Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai" moves somewhat on the same track. To put it straight, four friends,
namely, Ranjit (Prashant), Rahul (Aamir Ali), Johny (Yash) & Bunty (Vaibhav), are very much in college. But rather then studies, they are more interested in sex and stuff. And that triggers their numerous exploits in search of the fairer
sex. They apply every trick in the book to woo girls, and that forms the crux of the story.
------
Individually, Ranjit is the eldest of them all, falling for a two-timing beauty, Esha (Payal). But there's also a simple homely chic named Annu (Samita), who
loves Ranjit, but isn't able to send the message across.
Next, Rahul dates Preity (Deepti), who comes from an orthodox family background. And he tries to romance
her, by making innumerable visits with her, to watch the blockbuster "Titanic". Whereas, Johny loses his heart to his English teacher, Stella (Punarnava Mehta).
And finally, the last and the most spoilt brat, Bunty, is the perfect playboy type, with his father, a step ahead of him, being
a sexologist.
The comedy takes an emotional twist towards the end. The script seems to be straight out of Khuswant Singh's novels. The cinematography
is refreshing.
Of the cast, Prashant shows his well-toned body at will. The Milind Soman look-alike badly needs to improve his dialogue delivery. Aamir Ali tries to imitate Salman Khan a lot, in his speech and style. Yash's character can be identified with that of Akshaye Khanna's, in Dil Chahta Hai, playing his role similar to Sid's in DCH. Whereas, Vaibhav is the pick of the lot, displaying immense talent to make
you sit up and notice.
VERDICT : If you liked 'Style', you'll like this one too. Just hope it turns out to be a good money spinner like the former.
